Mala Memoria was an illustration contest hosted by the Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos (Museum of Memory and Human Rights) in Santiago, Chile. Its goal was to bring to light the acts of violence againts human rights that happened in Chile from 1973-1990. The illustrations submitted had to portray one of these acts specifically. My illustration, En Memoria de Marta Ugarte, tells the story of Marta, the only body of hundreds that were dispatched at sea that came to shore. The government with the help of the media made up a cover story to hide the crime, but eventually, the truth was discovered and Marta's identity was restored. The illustration was awarded first place
En Memoria de Marte Ugarte, digital drawing and collage, 2015.
Some of the research:
Newspaper showing a fake story of the crime.
The victim, Marta Urgarte Román.
These were the helicopters the government used to dispose the victim's bodies in the ocean.
